MAPP EPSRC Future Manufacturing Hub
MAPP, the EPSRC Future Manufacturing Hub in Manufacture using Advanced Powder Processes has been in operation for approximately 18 months. Our vision is to deliver on the promise of powder-based manufacturing to provide low energy, low cost, and low waste high value manufacturing routes and products to secure UK manufacturing productivity and growth. We are working with academic, commercial and innovation partners to drive the research needed to solve many of the fundamental challenges limiting the development and uptake of many powder-based processes.
There have been many research highlights already, including work at the Diamond Light Source, work on Diode Area Melting and FAST Forge as well as ceramic processing. We held our first highly successful international conference in Sheffield in January and have established the MAPP invited lecture series, which highlights the interdisciplinary nature of our far-reaching collaborations. On 3rd/4th September 2018 we are hosting AAMS2018 – Alloys for Additive Manufacturing Symposium, an international forum, which travels to Sheffield from the AAMS2017 held in Switzerland last year. We have also completed our first feasibility funding call for UK academics. Keep in touch for details of further opportunities to engage with us.
MAPP is a £20m research hub led by the University of Sheffield and brings together expertise from the Universities of Leeds, Manchester, Oxford, and Imperial College London, together with 17 industry partners and the UK’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult Centres.
